Sometimes the number gets bigger every year.
But a driver does not see a lumen number.
The driver sees the road.
For wholesalers and distributors, this is why beam pattern deserves much more attention.

Lumens Describe Light Output, Not Where the Light Goes

Luminous flux is one measurement of light output.
But a headlamp is an optical system.
The final road illumination depends on how the light source interacts with:
  • reflector
  • projector
  • focal position
  • LED chip position
  • shield
  • lens
A product can produce a large amount of light and still produce poor usable illumination.

The Optical Position of the LED Matters

Halogen headlamps were designed around a specific filament position.
When an LED replacement bulb is installed, the LED light-emitting area needs to interact properly with the existing optical system.
